Reds’ Bailey battered in loss

The Mets’ Jay Bruce runs the bases after hitting a two-run home run off the Reds’ Homer Bailey in the third inning.

Michael Conforto sliced Bailey’s second pitch of the game into the seats just beside the full pole in left field for his second home run of the year.

Bailey ran into more trouble in the second. Adrian Gonzalez led with a single. Jose Lobaton followed with a double. Bailey got P.J. Conlon to ground out. But No. 9 hitter Amed Rosaria got Gonzalez home with a sacrifice fly.

The third was no

better for Bailey. Yoenis Cespedes led off with a single. Bruce then hit a towering shot to right to make it 4-0. Two outs later, Gonzalez lined one into the right-field seats to make it 5-0.

The Reds, meanwhile, did not have a hit until Hamilton homered with one out in the third.

Bailey gave than run back in the fourth.

But the Reds got back in the game in the bottom of the fourth. Suarez and Gennett got it started with the

back-to-back, oneout doubles. Tucker Barnhart got Gennett in with the Reds third double of the inning to make it 6-3.

Jackson Stephens gave up a second home run to Gonzalez in the fifth.

Suarez answered in the sixth with his fifth homer of the year. Back-to-back singles from Adam Duvall and Barnhart made it first and third with one out. Pinch-hitter Scott Schebler lined to left to drive Duvall in and make it 7-5.
