North Side diner deserves its room filled with regulars
Every neighborhood in Columbus seems to have at least one diner to call its own, and for the residents of Beechwold, they can claim George’s Beechwold Diner.
The eatery offers everything that makes a diner great: an accessible and inexpensive menu, a friendly wait staff and a crowd of regulars.
Although the website and social-media presence use the name Beechwold Diner, the menus and signage term it George’s Beechwold Diner after owner George Cela.
Breakfast is served all day at the diner; the offerings comprise one full page of the menu.

and toast. The Big Breakfast ($9.75) lets diners choose from hotcakes or French toast to pair with eggs, potatoes and toast.
The sweet cinnamon roll ($3) makes for a nice start. It’s generously frosted and soft enough to cut with a fork. Continuing with the sweet theme, the hotcakes ($4.75 for three) arrive fluffy and lightly browned. The French toast ($4.75) is similarly appetizing, with slices of bread thoroughly dredged in the batter and heavily dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar.
Omelets ($6.25 to $7.75) are neatly folded into squares and filled with combinations of meats, cheeses and vegetables. The Greek omelet includes gyro meat, feta, tomatoes, onions and peppers.
The diner also offers biscuits and gravy ($5), with two relatively soft buttermilk biscuits ladled with a chunky and slightly underseasoned gravy. The simple but easy-to-like breakfast sandwich ($4.25) layers eggs, cheese and a choice of ham, bacon or sausage.
With approachable and wallet-friendly meals like these, it’s no surprise that George’s Beechwold Diner has earned its regulars.
