Man found fatally shot in South Linden

Columbus homicide detectives are investigat­ing a fatal shooting early Tuesday in South Linden.

Shedrick Parker III, 30, of North Linden, was found lying on the street behind a car in the 1200 block of East 20th Avenue, Sgt. Jeff Strayer, supervisor of the third-shift homicide unit, said in a release issued Tuesday afternoon. Parker was transporte­d to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:54 a.m. Tuesday.

Columbus police received a 911 call at 4:17 a.m. about a man down with a gunshot wound in the area of East 20th Avenue and Ontario Street, just west of Cleveland Avenue.

A woman told a dispatcher that her husband found the man outside a house on the 1200 block of East 20th Avenue. The man was bleeding from his thigh and said he had been shot, she said. She said the man told her husband that he knew who shot him, but he could barely speak and wasn’t able to provide a descriptio­n of the shooter.

The victim told police that he was shot near the corner of East 21st Avenue and Ontario Street, according to police dispatch logs. Officers found a blood trail leading from that location to the 1200 block of East 20th.

Investigat­ors interviewe­d a witness who said he heard two gunshots and then saw two people running from the scene of the shooting, the logs said. Police found a shell casing near the intersecti­on of East 20th and Ontario Street.

Police had several blocks of East 20th Avenue closed off with yellow tape Tuesday when school buses stopped to pick up children.

The shooting took place Columbus police were investigat­ing a homicide Tuesday morning, after a man was found with a gunshot wound shortly after 4 a.m. in the area of East 20th Avenue and Ontario Street in South Linden. just a few blocks from the Hamilton Stem Academy on Hamilton Avenue.

Strayer said there is no known motive or suspects at this time for the homicide, which is the 43rd in Columbus this year. At this time in 2017 — when the city set a new annual record with 143 total homicides — the city had 53 homicides.
