Clippers’ bats silent during loss to Chiefs

- From wire reports

Tuffy Gosewisch hit a two-run homer and had two hits, and the host Syracuse Chiefs topped the Clippers 5-2 on Friday night before 3,263 at NBT Bank Stadium.

Syracuse took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jacob Wilson’s double scored Irving Falu, then a throwing error by Clippers shortstop Yu Chang allowed another run to score.

The Clippers tied the score 2-2 in the fourth after Francisco Mejia hit a two-run homer with Chang aboard with one of his three singles in the game.

But that was all the offense the Clippers could muster in a game in which they struck out 12 times. They were limited to six hits in their third loss in a row.

After Syracuse added a run in the fifth on a single by Jose Marmolejos, the Chiefs extended their lead in the sixth inning when Gosewisch hit a two-run homer.

Clippers starter Myles Jaye (3-4) took the loss in after giving up five runs and eight hits over six innings. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

Jack Leathersich came on in relief and pitched two innings of hitless ball and recorded two strikeouts.

Syracuse lefthander Tommy Milone (3-4) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. Jimmy Cordero retired the side in order for his first save of the season.
