Loss ends season for OSU baseball

-

UNC-Wilmington 4, Ohio State 3, 13 innings

Kep Brown’s RBI single in the 13th inning ended the game and Ohio State’s baseball season as North Carolina-Wilmington defeated the Buckeyes 4-3 in an NCAA regional elimination game on Saturday in Greenville, North Carolina.

It was a quick exit from the Greenville Regional for Ohio State (36-24), which lost to South Carolina 8-3 on Friday.

The game was delayed for 1 hour and 40 minutes in the bottom of the 12th because of rain and lightning.

Noah Bridges opened the 13th for the Seahawks (38-22) by drawing a fourpitch walk from OSU’s Yianni Pavlopoulos. Bridges took second on Greg Jones’ groundout and Ryan Jeffers was intentionally walked.

Kyle Michalik, the fifth OSU pitcher in the game, relieved Pavlopoulos and gave up a pinch-hit single to Noah Liles to load the bases. That brought up Brown, whose base hit to right on a 1-and-1 pitch drove in Bridges and ended the game nearly 6 hours after its noon start.

Noah West singled in Dillon Dingler in the 11th to give the Buckeyes a 3-2 lead.

The Seahawks answered in the bottom of the inning with Mason Berne’s RBI double.

Dingler scored on Dominic Canzone’s groundout to second for the game’s first run in the second inning.

David Sheaffer singled in a run off Buckeyes starter Ryan Feltner in the second to tie it.

In the fourth, Jacob Barnwell gave the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead with a homer down the left-field line, but the Seahawks again answered with Jeffers’ RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
