Pence: Our tax cuts are putting Ohio first

- Mike Pence is vice president of the United States of America.

Under our tax plan, the first $24,000 of income for a married couple is incometax free, nearly double what it was before. The child tax credit is twice as high, rising from $1,000 to $2,000 per child. All told, under our tax cuts and reforms, the typical Ohio family of four will get to keep nearly $2,300 more of their hard-earned money every year.

Our tax cuts for job creators also will benefit working families. We cut taxes for businesses large and small, so they can compete — and win — on a level playing field with companies around the world. Companies across the state have already responded with renewed investment in their communities and their workers because a tax cut for business is a pay raise for workers.

In fact in just the past six months, more than 95,200 Ohio workers have benefited from our tax cuts in the form of pay raises, better benefits and bonuses.

But this is just the beginning because as the economy continues to grow as a result of our tax cuts, our administration estimates that annual wages for Ohio workers will rise by about $4,000 in the years ahead.

These historic tax cuts would not have been possible without Ohio’s Republican leaders in the Congress. They deserve the Buckeye State’s thanks for putting Ohio First.

But the same cannot be said of Ohio’s Democrats in Congress, all of whom voted against cutting taxes for working families and job creators.

And it’s not just the tax cuts. Ohio Democrats in Washington, D.C., have repeatedly voted against the policies that the hardworking men and women of Columbus support and need.

The simple truth is that our tax cuts are already helping Ohio’s working families, and so is the rest of our agenda.

Beyond tax cuts, our administration has eliminated 22 regulations for every new one put on the books. We’ve been unleashing America’s boundless energy resources to power our factories, farms and families. And our president has taken decisive action to fight for trade agreements that are free, fair and reciprocal because with President Trump in the White House, we will always put American jobs and American workers first.

The results we’re seeing in Columbus and across the country are nothing short of remarkable.

According to the latest jobs numbers, since Election Day 2016 Columbus businesses have created more than 23,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate in Ohio’s capital city has fallen to its lowest level since 2001, and across the state Buckeye businesses have created nearly 74,000 jobs — including more than 9,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs.

But make no mistake: The best is yet to come because under President Donald Trump, the forgotten men and women of America are forgotten no more. In the days ahead, we will continue to deliver on the promises we made to the people of Ohio, and together we will Make America Great Again.
