Son charged with stabbing father to death

A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of his father inside their Northeast Side house Saturday night.

Ronald Ray Radford Jr. was arrested at a nearby business after fleeing the home in the 4300 block of Portobello Drive near Morse Road and Interstate 270, Columbus police said.

Police were called around 9:20 p.m. to the home, where they found Ronald Ray Radford Sr. , 62, lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds. Medics pronounced the father dead at the scene at 9:33 p.m.

Police said father and son were arguing when the stabbing occurred. The investigat­ion was still ongoing Sunday. Anyone with informatio­n was asked to contact the homicide unit at 614-645-4730 or leave an anonymous tip with Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.

The stabbing was the city’s 55th homicide this year.

A registered sex offender has been charged with gross sexual imposition on a minor after Columbus police say he groped an 11-year-old boy Saturday night at Comfest in Goodale Park.

Police said Todd R. Gavorcik, 36, of the East Side, grabbed the boy’s groin with his outstretch­ed hand as he walked past the boy and his family. Gavorcik

The boy’s sister screamed, and parents and special duty officers chased Gavorcik, who was tackled and held by another person attending Comfest, police said.

Gavorcik is a registered sex offender. In 2007, while he was out on bond on charges of fondling two 10-yearold boys in Groveport, he was picked up near an elementary school by Dublin police, who found nude photos of children in his car.

Gavorcik was sentenced to more than seven years in prison in those incidents.
