Body found in home of Giants’ Jenkins

- From wire reports

A man’s body was found Tuesday at the New Jersey home of Janoris Jenkins of the New York Giants and identified as belonging to a family friend.

Roosevelt Rene, 25, had been living recently at the house in Fair Lawn, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

No details were released on how Rene died. The prosecutor’s office said, “The manner of death will be determined by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office after a post-mortem exam.”

It’s not known if Jenkins was present at the residence, Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

The belief within the Giants’ organization is that Jenkins, 29, has been at his offseason home in Florida since the team’s minicamp ended June 14. A spokesperson from the Giants said, “We are aware of and monitoring the situation.”

Fair Lawn resident Patti Golick said that Jenkins was not home, but members of his family do live in the rental house.

“We’re just all very upset. We don’t know anything right now,” she said.

A six-year veteran cornerback who signed with the Giants as a free agent before the 2016 season, Jenkins earned a Pro Bowl start in his first season with the team, but his second year with the Giants was more tumultuous. It included a suspension for an unspecified violation of team rules and an ankle injury that required seasonending surgery.
