Defensive back commits to OSU’s 2020 class

Four-star defensive back prospect Lejond Cavazos on Wednesday became the second commitment to the Ohio State 2020 football recruiting class.

From IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, the 6-foot, 186-pound Cavazos announced his pledge on a livestream while attending the Rivals Challenge camp in Atlanta. He picked the Buckeyes over Alabama, Georgia, Oregon and LSU.

He said during the segment that along with football, one of the aspects of the Ohio State program that attracted him was the “Real Life Wednesdays” instituted by coach Urban Meyer that help players zero in on a career to pursue once their football days are done.

But analysts believe Cavazos, considered a fourstar prospect according to the 247Sports composite rankings, has plenty of football to play first.

“He’s an elite athlete who, while he played safety his first season at IMG last year, is an elite cornerback prospect,” Bucknuts analyst Bill Kurelic said. “He has good size for the position and he is really fast.”

Cavazos was timed at 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash at an Ohio State skills camp this month.

Cavazos joins offensive lineman Jake Wray — younger brother of current Buckeye Max Wray — as the first two members of the 2020 class, but they may be getting a third member soon. Quarterback Jack Miller of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, is expected to announce his choice in the next few days.

Soon after Cavazos revealed his pick, Jake Wray and Miller saluted him on Twitter.

“Congrats bro! Been talking ‘bout this for a long time,” Miller wrote.
