Dead Reynoldsburg man’s car found in Columbus
A car that belonged to a Reynoldsburg man whose death is being investigated as a homicide has been found, police said Friday.
David Vollette, 46, was found dead Wednesday in his home in the 7700 block of Pembrook Drive in the Slate Ridge subdivision after Reynoldsburg police went there on a well-being check. His white 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis with two broken windows, usually parked in front of the house, was missing, a neighbor told police.
Reynoldsburg police located the car in the 1000 block of East Livingston Avenue between South Ohio Avenue and South Champion Avenue in Columbus, near the confluence of the Old Oaks, Livingston Park and Southern Orchards neighborhoods.
The car was towed to the Reynoldsburg police department, according to a warrant to search the vehicle filed with Franklin County Municipal Court.
Reynoldsburg police said in a release that police have interviewed a person of interest, swabbed his cheeks for DNA and released him.
Reynoldsburg Police Chief David Plesich said investigators do not yet have enough evidence to charge that person.
The recovered car has also been swabbed for DNA, the search warrant says.
No one has been arrested or charged. Investigators are waiting for the results of Vollette’s autopsy to determine the cause of death, Plesich said.
Vollette’s mother called Reynoldsburg police on Wednesday because her son hadn’t shown up to work that day, prompting his discovery, court records indicate.
Police found the front door ajar and Vollette lying in his bed with a wound on the right side of his head, officers said in a search warrant affidavit.
Upon searching Vollette’s house, police found a document addressed to the person of interest in one of the upstairs bedrooms and a hammer, according to the warrant.
