Food- safety violations close restaurant, store

Franklin County Public Health this week closed a restaurant in Columbus and a Family Dollar store in Blendon Township after inspectors found multiple violations of food-safety standards.

Inspectors applied an "ordered closed" sticker to Delicias Grill on Wednesday and declared the restaurant at 375 Georgesville Road on the West Side a "danger to public health" after an inspection that day showed roaches, rodents and other pests, and "an enormous amount" of drain flies, according to the inspection report. Among 36 violations, 10 were labeled critical.

The restaurant will remain closed until the violations have been corrected and it passes inspection.

Among the violations inspectors found: most food items kept uncovered in the freezer and cooler, raw food improperly stored over ready-to-eat food in the cooler and uncovered beef tongue lying above the foodprep line and on the dirty cooler floor. The walk-in cooler wasn't working properly and was at an unsafe 52 degrees, and the ice machine and utensils were dirty, the report says.

On Tuesday, an "ordered closed" sticker was issued to the Family Dollar store at 5950 Westerville Road in Blendon Township, in northeastern Franklin County, after the health board suspended its retail-food license.

The board acted after a series of inspections conducted since March 2017 turned up 42 violations including six critical, records show. Inspectors have found dirty shelves, floors and ceilings, according to the records.

The suspension may be lifted and the store reopened if inspectors find no violations when they inspect the store again on Aug. 23. If they find violations, however, the store must remain closed pending an appearance before the board on Sept. 11.
