Mom, boyfriend charged in boy’s burning

later told the detective that her boyfriend, Christophe­r Hass, 29, had placed the boy in a hot shower and then later in a bath of scalding water, causing the burns. That occurred in mid-July.

Watson told the detectives she witnessed the abuse, did nothing to stop it and did not take the boy for medical treatment until August.

Watson has been charged with felony counts of endangerin­g children and permitting child abuse. She is being held in jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

Hass has been charged with felonious assault and endangerin­g children. He is being held in jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

The child is expected to recover.

New Albany police are reminding residents to keep their garage doors secured and to remove valuables from vehicles following a string of break-ins.

Six break-ins have been reported in the past two weeks in areas around area parks, the New Albany Country Club and the Links subdivisio­n.

There are two suspects believed to be involved in the break-ins.

Police are asking residents to report any suspicious behavior and leave garage doors closed or locked, as well as home doors and windows. Residents should also remove garage door openers from vehicles parked outside.

Columbus police were called to an East Side home on Aug. 22 after an anonymous caller reported a potential marijuana grow in the backyard.

Officers were able to see at least four fully developed marijuana plants, each standing about 5 feet tall, from an alley behind the home and obtained a search warrant, according to court records.

When officers executed the search warrant, they found five fully developed marijuana plants in a raised bed in the backyard of the home.

The plants were seized, and charges are pending.
