Lancaster comeback stuns Pickeringt­on Central

Lucas Gauerke scored on a 1-yard run with 31 seconds remaining to complete a wild comeback for host Lancaster, which stunned defending Division I state champion Pickeringt­on Central 31-30 in an Ohio Capital Conference Ohio Division game Friday.

The Golden Gales (4-3, 2-0), winners of four straight, trailed 30-17 after Central’s Nick Mosely ripped off a 92-yard touchdown run. Lancaster then fumbled away the ensuing kickoff, setting up the Tigers on the 36-yard line. But two plays into the drive, Max Hamilton took an intercepti­on back 70 yards for a touchdown to make it 30-24.

Lancaster forced a threeand-out and began its final drive from its own 11. After a defensive holding penalty on Central, Tyler Monk, who finished 2-of-12 for 77 yards, completed his first pass of the game for 33 yards to Hamilton on third-and-15, scrambled for a 12-yard gain and threw a 44-yard pass to Casey Finck to the 1-yard line with 44 seconds left.

Monk also ran for 95 yards and 5-yard TD in the third quarter. Hamilton added three Beechcroft’s Dante Latham breaks free against Centennial during the Cougars’ 30-25 win.

Demeatric Crenshaw led the Tigers (6-1, 1-1) with 151 yards passing and two TDs to Lorenzo Styles Jr., who finished with 135 yards on five receptions.

GAHANNA 10, REYNOLDSBU­RG 7: Reynoldsbu­rg had more total yards and led in time of possession, but Gahanna’s defense ground out an upset victory over the Raiders (6-1, 1-1) in the OCC Ohio. The Raiders, coming off a victory over Pickeringt­on North last week, gained 196 yards to

Gahanna’s 136 and held the ball for seven minutes longer. But the Lions (4-3, 1-1) stopped the Raiders on 13 of 15 third downs, forced six punts and sacked QB Dijon Jennings three times. Justus Harris, who had 69 yards rushing, gave the Lions a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, and Tyler Koss made it 10-0 in the third on a 28-yard field goal. Dezman Cooper scored on a 5-yard run midway through the fourth quarter for Reynoldsbu­rg, which committed eight penalties for 65 yards. WHETSTONE 20, MIFFLIN 16: Rashaun Broomfield passed for 120 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores to lead host Whetstone (2-5, 2-2) over Mifflin (2-5, 2-5) in the City League North Division. Broomfield’s 9-yard scoring jaunt in the third quarter gave the Braves a 20-6 lead they would not relinquish.

READY 56, COLUMBUS ACADEMY 42: Jack Foley amassed 265 yards and four touchdowns on 41 carries, and host Ready (3-4) outscored Columbus Academy (3-4) in a nonleague matchup. Austin Aiello added 126 yards rushing and a touchdown, and Jaishan Norris had three catches for 111 yards and a score for the Silver Knights, who piled up 601 yards of offense. Carter Warstler returned the opening kickoff 76 yards for a Vikings touchdown that set the stage for a 28-28 deadlock at halftime before Ready took control with 14 unanswered points in the third quarter. Brady Hess threw for 211 yards and four touchdowns, and Dorrian Moultrie had seven receptions for 127 yards and three scores for Academy.

HILLIARD DARBY 38, THOMAS WORTHINGTO­N 14: Connor Jones carried the ball 16 times for 221 yards and three touchdowns to pace host Hilliard Darby (5-2, 3-1) in an OCC Cardinal victory over Thomas Worthingto­n (2-5, 1-3). Evan Grose added 10 carries for 118 yards and a score for the Panthers, who piled up 462 yards rushing.

TEAYS VALLEY 49, BEXLEY 0: Quarterbac­k Tristian McDanel accounted for 313 total yards and four touchdowns to lead Teays Valley (5-2) past host Bexley (1-6) in nonleague action. McDanel threw for 181 yards and a touchdown, ran for 132 yards and two TDs and returned his own team’s fumble 13 yards for his fourth score. Josiah Rosese chipped in 69 yards rushing and two scores for the Vikings, who limited the Lions to 91 total yards.

NORTHMOR 15, EAST KNOX 14: Connor Becker’s 20-yard touchdown run with 2:44 remaining lifted Northmor (7-0, 4-0) into a tie with Highland atop the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference standings with win over host East Knox (6-1, 3-1). Becker finished with a workmanlik­e 87 yards on 28 carries and also scored the game’s opening touchdown from 10 yards out.
