Dodgers sit struggling Grandal

-

Austin Barnes subbed into the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lineup at catcher in place of struggling Yasmani Grandal for Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles fans were chanting “We want Austin!” during a 4-0 loss in Game 3 on Monday night, and that was before Grandal struck out on three pitches with the bases loaded in the ninth inning. Grandal dropped to 3 for 22 in the playoffs with 10 strikeouts, and he also committed his third passed ball of the series.

The Dodgers’ offensive woes haven’t just been about Grandal, however. The club went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position, struck out 14 times and had just five hits on Monday against starter Jhoulys Chacin and four Milwaukee relievers.

Even worse for LA, the Brewers needed shutdown left-hander Josh Hader for just eight pitches and two outs, meaning the All-Star was available for manager Craig Counsell again on Tuesday.

Game 4 was not over in time for this edition.

Chris Sale is back with the Boston Red Sox and says he feels well enough to pitch. Whether he will start Game 5 of the American League Championship Series on Thursday night remains to be seen.

Sale returned to the team on Tuesday in Houston after being hospitalized early Sunday for a stomach illness.

The club hasn’t specified the ailment or treatment, though manager Alex Cora said it was nothing serious.

“This is what he said: ‘I’m good enough,’ ” Cora said Tuesday after the Red Sox beat the Houston Astros 8-2 to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

The ace left-hander is expected to work off a mound on Wednesday before Game 4, “and then we’ll go from there,” Cora said.
