symptoms, you have to make sure that you take care of them.”

Gaines started the past two games opposite rookie Denzel Ward after cornerback Terrance Mitchell suffered a broken wrist Sept. 30 against the Oakland Raiders. Gaines, who signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Browns in March, has 11 tackles, an interception and three passes defensed this season.

TJ Carrie, another free-agent pickup, will start in place of Gaines, and Briean BoddyCalhoun will replace Carrie as the nickel cornerback, Jackson said.

The Buccaneers (2-3) rank eighth in points (28.2), second in yards (448.6) and first in passing yards (368.4) per game.

Quarterback Jameis Winston has three prolific receivers at his disposal: Mike Evans (33 catches for 484 yards and three touchdowns), DeSean Jackson (21 catches for 501 yards and three touchdowns) and Chris Godwin (21 catches for 249 yards and four touchdowns). Evans has made one Pro Bowl, and Jackson has three on his resume.

“They’re all vertical threats,” Boddy-Calhoun said. “They all have really good hands. As far as Mike Evans and D-Jax goes, they’re veteran receivers, been playing at a high level for a very long time. Godwin is a young guy who’s just as explosive. They look to try to get him the ball a lot.”

Because of his size, Evans, 6 feet 5 and 231 pounds, presents the greatest matchup problem for Carrie (6 feet, 204), Ward (5-11, 190) and Calhoun (5-9, 193).

“For a bigger, physical guy like that, you always have to be in perfect body position to eliminate space and to eliminate the flag,” Carrie said.
