Prep football team plays after teammate’s death

A Wisconsin high school football team opted to go forward with its playoff game hours after the death of a teammate — and honored him with more than a victory.

St. Mary’s Springs Academy of Fond du Lac scored 62 points. That was the jersey number worn by junior Trent Schueffner.

Workers dive deep to unclog sewer pumps

Divers spent two days deep inside a sewer, pulling out huge balls of oily, black wet wipes and baby wipes that had clogged intake pumps.

The Charleston Water System posted pictures of the masses of wipes on its Twitter account. It reminded people that only human waste and toilet tissue should be flushed. The cloth wipes need to be thrown away because they don’t break down in water.

The system had to send in the divers nearly 100 feet into a sewer well after the wipes, congealed by grease and other items sent into the pipes, clogged the suction intake pumps at the Plum Island Wastewater Treatment Center on James Island.

The divers couldn’t smell

Rebels kill 2 agents fighting Ebola’s spread

Congo’s health minister called it a “dark day” for everyone fighting the deadly Ebola outbreak after rebels shot and killed two medical agents with the Congolese army who had been assisting health officials.

It appeared to be the first time health workers have been killed by rebels in this outbreak, which is taking place in what has been compared to a war zone. Multiple rebel groups are active in Congo’s far northeast.

The number of confirmed Ebola cases has now reached 200, including 117 deaths.
