The Columbus City Council will begin accepting applications Tuesday to replace two council members who won countywide elections Tuesday.

Councilwoman Jaiza Page was chosen by voters to a Franklin County Common Pleas Court judgeship, and Councilman Michael Stinziano won his election to Franklin County auditor. Page will assume office in January; Stinziano will be sworn in as auditor in March.

Applicants must provide to the city clerk eight copies of a resume, along with a 500-word essay describing the greatest challenges and opportunities facing Columbus. Those must be turned in by noon Nov. 26. That pool of applicants will be used to fill both seats, according to a Thursday memo from council President Shannon G. Hardin.

Council members will conduct individual interviews with applicants between Nov. 27 and Dec. 6. Council members then must submit the names of three finalists to the city clerk by Dec. 7.

On Dec. 11, the council will have a public meeting but adjourn to a closed session to conduct interviews with the finalists. A public meeting to hear comments about finalists for Page’s seat will be held at 5 p.m. Jan. 10. The council will then vote on Page’s replacement Jan. 14.

A hearing for comments about finalists for Stinziano’s seat is scheduled for 5 p.m. March 7. The council will appoint Stinziano’s successor March 11.
