Veterans remembered with holiday events

Veterans Day is Sunday and will be observed Monday. There are events commemorat­ing the holiday across central Ohio over several days. The events below are Sunday unless otherwise noted:

• Columbus: Veterans panel discussion at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, 300 W. Broad St., at 2 p.m. The program is free but a ticket is required and space is limited. Tickets are available at https://www.showclix.com/ event/veteran-voices-panel • Columbus: Program from noon to 3 p.m. at the Statehouse marking the 100th anniversar­y of the end of World War I. Hands-on activities and participat­ion in the nationwide Bells of Peace program. • Columbus: Program at Franklin County Memorial Hall, 280 E. Broad St., at 3 p.m. Julie Mujic of the Columbus Historical Society will discuss how communitie­s select war monuments and how the city has worked to uncover its World War I history. The program is free but registrati­on is required. For more informatio­n, visit www. columbushi­story.org. • Delaware: Parade starting at 3 p.m. at Ohio Wesleyan University, near Wilmer Street. Parade will go through the city and to the county fairground­s on Pennsylvan­ia Avenue, with ceremony to follow. • Dublin: Ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, in Veterans Park, 77. N. High St., with keynote address by Maj. Gen. Gregory L. Wayt. • Gahanna: Ceremony at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 73 W. Johnstown Road. • Grove City: Service at 11 a.m. at Grove City Museum, 3378 Park St. A veterans panel discussion will be held Sunday afternoon at the recently opened National Veterans Memorial and Museum at 300 W. Broad St. The program is free but a ticket is required.

• Hilliard: Parade starting at 2 p.m. at the Franklin County Fairground­s, 5035 Northwest Parkway. The parade will go to Veterans Memorial at Roger Reynolds Municipal Park, where a short ceremony will be held with keynote address by retired Marine Sgt. Maj. George Mussi. A free (donations will be accepted for the American Legion’s “Gifts for Yanks” program) bean and cornbread dinner will be served at the Hilliard United Methodist Church, 5445 Scioto Darby Rd.,

from 3 to 6 p.m. • Johnstown: A parade starting at 11 am.. Saturday will go from Johnstown High School, 445 S. Main St., to American Legion Post 254, with lunch following. • Marysville: Voices From the Stone program at 2 p.m., Union County Veterans Memorial at the Union County Courthouse. • Pleasant Township (Perry County): Re-dedication at noon of WWII monument on Route 13 (across from the post office in Moxahala), with guest speaker retired Maj. Gen. David Hartley.

• Powell: Ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at the Greater Powell Veterans Memorial in Village Green Park, 47 Hall St., with a free luncheon to follow in the municipal building’s east room for veterans and military personnel as well as their family and friends. (In case of bad weather, the ceremony will be in the city council chambers.) • Westervill­e: Free concert at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Messiah United Methodist Church, 51 N. State St., featuring the Messiah Big Band,

adult Chancel Choir, and children’s Rainbow and Altar choirs. Special guests will include Westervill­e’s community chorus, The Silvertone­s, and bagpipers Aladdin Pipes & Drums. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit Honor Flight Columbus. • Whitehall: Parade beginning at noon Saturday at Etna Elementary School, 4531 Etna Road, and going to the high school.
