Mitchell to take 2 concepts beyond area

- By JD Malone

Cameron Mitchell will soon be done with Columbus, at least for now.

Mitchell, the city’s premier restaurateur, plans to open a pair of new concepts in the Short North and a food hall in the old Budd Dairy building next year. After opening about half a dozen restaurants in town in the past few years, Mitchell wants to focus beyond central Ohio.

“We don’t have any restaurants opening in Columbus after 2019,” Mitchell said during an event at the Columbus Metropolitan Club on Wednesday. “We’re taking a break.”

The new concepts opening next year in the Short North will be DelMar in the new building at 711 N. High St. and a rooftop bar called the Lincoln Social in the same building, Mitchell said. DelMar is a Mediterranean- inspired concept. There will also be a new Avenue steakhouse in Dublin, but not much more on the local scene.

Don’t fret, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants fans: The company has taken a break from development here before. Between 2006 and 2012, Mitchell didn’t open a single restaurant in central Ohio, instead building the Mitchell’s Fish House and Ocean Prime concepts into national brands.

So, instead of opening restaurants here, Mitchell hopes to take a few familiar names to new places. Hudson 29, a steakhouse with sushi and sandwiches, and Cap City Fine Diner, both of which have multiple central Ohio locations, will be the next Mitchell concepts to leap outward.
