Man ODs while babysitting four young children
Municipal Court to answer to the misdemeanor charge.
None of the children in Standish’s care were harmed after he became unresponsive on the floor inside the home. One of the children reportedly alerted the mother, who was at work, and she alerted authorities, who dispatched medical responders from the Old Washington and Cambridge fire departments, along with Cambridge police officers.
Two officers reportedly administered four doses of Narcan to Standish after arriving at the residence at approximately 9:39 p.m. A female reportedly administered CPR prior to the arrival of emergency responders.
According to reports from the Cambridge Police Department, a caller reported that a male, later identified as Standish, had stopped breathing. Upon entering the home, officers reported finding Standish lying on the floor with a weak pulse.
After the Narcan was administered, emergency medical personnel from the Old Washington department began administering first aid and Standish slowly became responsive. He was carried to a waiting ambulance and taken to Southeastern Med for treatment.
The mother told officers she was at work when one of the children called to say Standish was “passed out” on the floor and he was gurgling. The mother rushed home from work and found Standish still lying on the floor unresponsive.
The woman reported two neighbors arrived a short time later to help with first aid, and CPR was started.
The mother told police Standish was the only adult home with the four children — ages 3 months, 2, 4 and 7 years old — when the overdose occurred.
Upon speaking with Standish at the hospital, police said he told them he didn’t remember what drug he took, but he believed it was “likely heroin.”
The officer served Standish with the summons and left him at the hospital for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation by the Cambridge Police Department.
