Area well represente­d on Divisions IV, V all-state teams

Central Ohio landed seven players each on the first team of the Ohio Prep Sportswrit­ers Associatio­n Division IV and Division V All-Ohio high school football teams announced Monday.

In Division IV, quarterbac­k Otto Kuhns of Bloom-Carroll, running KJ Price of London, offensive linemen Jarrod Hufford of Licking Valley and Jack Gould of London, kicker Cameron Shirkey of Bloom-Carroll, defensive lineman Joey Scaffidi of Highland and linebacker Bricker Thiel earned first-team honors.

Kuhns passed for 1,817 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 917 yards and 12 TDs in the regular season.

Price ran for 2,219 yards — averaging 13.9 yards per carry — and scored 35 touchdowns for a 9-1 team.

Hufford, an Iowa State commit, helped Licking Valley reach the final four. Gould, who registered 28 pancake blocks, paved the way for a run game that averaged 350 yards per game.

Shirkey made 8 of 11 field goals, scored 64 points and averaged 52.3 yards on kickoffs with 23 touchbacks.

Scaffidi had 8.5 tackles for loss and six sacks and also was Highland’s best offensive lineman on a 9-1 playoff team.

Thiel made 88 tackles, six for loss, with 13 quarterbac­k pressures, four sacks and four intercepti­ons.

The offensive player of the year was quarterbac­k Evan Prater of top-ranked state finalist Cincinnati Wyoming. He passed for 1,482 yards with 19 touchdowns and two intercepti­ons and rushed for 1,049 yards and 21 TDs.

Sean Perry of St. Marys Memorial was defensive player of the year. The safety had 122 tackles, seven sacks and two intercepti­ons.

Alex Penrod of Gallipolis Gallia Academy was chosen coach of the year. Penrod guided a team that was 1-9 in 2016 to 9-1 and a playoff spot.

In Division V, Barasch led Johnstown to its first state title game by rushing for 1,667 yards and 21 touchdowns in the regular season as part of a three-headed attack.

Moultrie made 56 receptions for 887 yards and scored 17 touchdowns.

Miley was credited with 56 pancake blocks to anchor Pleasant’s line.

Massick made 10 of 11 field goals, 45 of 45 extra points and averaged 57 yards per kickoff with 41 touchbacks. He also averaged 48.3 yards per punt.

Stark made 82 tackles (25 for loss) with 14 sacks. Clark made 63.5 tackles (15 for loss) with four sacks and also was his team’s top offensive linemen. Davis tallied 101 tackles, 18 for loss.

C.J. Charleston of Gates Mills Gilmour Academy was offensive player of the year. He rushed for 2,035 yards and scored 43 touchdowns, averaging 14.9 yards per carry.

The defensive award went to linebacker Brady Blattner of Byesville Meadowbroo­k. He made 111 tackles (16 for loss). He also scored 23 TDs on offense.

The coach of the year was Brian Fox of Elyria Catholic.
