The Columbus Dispatch

Where have these Buckeyes been this season?

- Rstein@dispatch.com

Editor: Congratulations to Urban Meyer and the Ohio State football team on yet another victory over Michigan. Here are a few of my takeaways:

• Before patting themselves on the back, the defense should be reminded that they gave up 39 points. In fact, the secondary did just about everything it could to keep the Wolverines in the game.

• I assume Urban went Black Friday shopping for a new offensive line and linebacker corps; these couldn’t be the same groups we fielded the previous 11 games.

• Ohio State should do whatever it takes to secure the services of Ryan Day for the long term. Could he be the next head coach?

• NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders once said, “It ain’t trash talking if you can back it up.” Perhaps the Ray Stein

boys from Ann Arbor should keep that in mind.

Michael A. Thompson, Grove City

Michael: That last one, to me, remains the most puzzling aspect of that game. Why Michigan coaches allowed their players to promote a ridiculous Revenge Tour when the job wasn’t complete is an all-time headscratcher. Unwise, unbecoming.

Mr. Stein: It occurs to me that while Michigan might be the Wolverines, you have to wonder if the Buckeyes haven’t been playing possum for most of this season.

If that has been their intentional strategy, they are deserving of an Academy Award or a Tony or something.

Eric Loveman, Columbus

Eric: That was no opossum I watched in October in West Lafayette. Hard to tell what it was, in fact, but I know it was road kill.

Ray: If someone had told me beforehand that the score of the Buckeye-TTUN game would be 62-39, like a lot of Buckeyes fans I would have said I don’t think we can score 39 on that defense.

Kudos to Urban Meyer and his staff for a great game plan and getting his team focused. It is so much fun to see Coach Khaki’s deer-in-theheadlights look every time we beat them.

Brent D. Rosenthal, Westerville

Brent: Tell the truth: Were you among the sadists in the Nation who wanted Ohio State to cash in on its final drive, then go for two and get to 70? Like the old folks say, 70 is the new 50.

Editor: I know you won’t print this, Ray. But seriously, who coaches the defensive backs? If I have to see Kendall Sheffield give up another touchdown pass without turning around and looking for the ball as the receiver is reaching up to catch it I think I’m gonna puke.

Until The Dispatch starts printing letters like that, you’ll never be big time like Philly and New York. I don’t understand why you print some great letters and then “crap” letters that have nothing to do with anything.

Michael Voitovich, Hilliard

Michael: Printed it! Now, fingers crossed that we can be “big time,” like Philly.
