Report: Hocking Hills fastest-growing spot

The Hocking Hills region of Ohio has been ranked No. 1 among the fastestgro­wing travel destinatio­ns by Homeaway.com, a vacation rental website.

The site's 2019 Travel Trend Report says that demand for vacation home rentals in Hocking Hills has grown by 120 percent over 12 months and 375 percent over the past three years.

Other up-and-coming destinatio­ns noted by the report include Newton County, Arkansas, home to Ozark National Forest.

Christmas events come to water park

The Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, north of Cincinnati, is celebratin­g its annual Snowland Extravagan­za through Jan. 4. The lodge and indoor water park will see "snow" showers in its Grand Lobby and host visits from Santa Claus daily.

The centerpiec­e of the celebratio­n is a life-sized gingerbrea­d house, constructe­d from more than 6,000 pounds of gingerbrea­d dough, 1,300 pounds of sugar and hundreds of candies. Guests can dine in the gingerbrea­d house with a small donation to the Ronald Mcdonald House.

Presidenti­al holiday on tap at Hayes home

Oh, there's no place like the Hayes Home for the holidays.

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidenti­al Library and Museums in Fremont will host a special holiday event Dec. 20-23.

The event, from 5 to 8 each evening, will feature house tours hosted by costumed greeters and guides who will tell about the traditions of the presidenti­al family.

Guests also can enjoy some non-alcoholic wassail, a Hayes favorite; enjoy live music and view the "Hayes Train Special" model train exhibit in the museum.

Tickets cost $25, or $10 for children ages 6 to 18. Advance purchase of tickets is recommende­d.
