A Worthington Kilbourne High School student was charged with bringing a gun and ammunition to school Tuesday after a student at another school alerted a principal to a social media post about the weapon.

Domonic Michael Keaton, 18, of the Northwest Side, faces a charge of carrying a concealed handgun for which ammunition was ready at hand, a fourthdegree felony, Franklin County Municipal Court records show.

There is no evidence that threats were made, Worthington Kilbourne Principal Aric Thomas said.

School officials learned about the gun after a student at Worthington Academy showed the principal there an Instagram video of a female student holding the Taurus .357-caliber revolver at a school. Authorities at Worthington Kilbourne identified the female student and later found the unloaded gun and ammunition in Keaton's backpack, records show.

Keaton admitted during an interview with a Columbus police detective that he had brought the gun to school on Monday and Tuesday, records show.

On Wednesday, Worthington Kilbourne staff members will talk with all students about safety and answer any questions about the situation, according to an email Thomas sent to families Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to the criminal charge, Keaton will face discipline through the school district.
