Flooding expected to continue into weekend

Rain brought high waters and delays on some central Ohio roadways Wednesday, and the region should prepare for flooding to continue through the weekend.

Anyone who lives near a river, creek or stream should be wary of possible flooding, the National Weather Service warned on Wednesday.

A flood watch took effect at 7 p.m. Wednesday, encompassi­ng Franklin County and the surroundin­g counties, and will continue through Friday, according to the Weather Service.

Large rivers are more likely to flood when strong rains arrive Thursday, the Weather Service said.

A flood warning was issued Wednesday evening for parts of Hocking County along the Hocking River. The river Wednesday evening was 1 foot below the 12-foot flood stage. The river could rise another foot on Friday, making portions of West Logan, Rockbridge and Route 93 south of Logan vulnerable to flooding.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, an inch of rain had been recorded at John Glenn A flood watch encompasse­s Franklin County and the surroundin­g counties and will continue through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Columbus Internatio­nal Airport. The National Weather Service is expecting at least another inch and possibly 1.5 inches of rain by Friday morning.

High water caused delays in parts of Columbus on Wednesday, according to the

Ohio Department of Transporta­tion.

The far left eastbound lane of Interstate 670 was closed for several hours between Neil Avenue and Route 315 in the Arena District, as was the far left eastbound lane of Interstate 70 between Livingston Avenue and Route 33 on the East Side. Both have since reopened.

Rain is in the forecast for most of the day Thursday, with the heaviest rain expected Thursday afternoon.
