St. Charles edges Hartley in 3 overtimes

Jared Frey hit a key three-pointer in the third overtime as St. Charles outlasted visiting Hartley 68-64 in a Central Catholic League boys basketball game Friday night.

Spencer Martin led the Cardinals with 22 points and made 13 of the team’s 24 free throws. Frey finished with 20 points for St. Charles (11-7, 4-3), which made 17 of 24 from the line during the three overtimes.

Morgan Safford had 43 points for Hartley (10-8, 3-5). He shot 15 of 17 from the line and forced the third overtime on a three-pointer with six seconds remaining in the second OT.

DESALES 67, READY 59: Kobe Righter and Desmond Watson combined to go 8 of 8 on free throws in the fourth quarter and Desales (12-7, 5-2) held off host Ready (8-11, 1-6) in a CCL game. Righter led the Stallions with 20 points and finished 6 of 6 from the line. Watson finished with 14 points and Desales made 17 of 22 free throws, including 11 in the final quarter. CJ White and Jaishan Norris each had 13 points for Ready.

OLENTANGY LIBERTY 61, WESTERVILL­E CENTRAL 50: Ben Roderick had 24 points and Olentangy Liberty rallied to beat visiting Westervill­e Central and clinch the Ohio Capital Conference Buckeye title. Tyler Beckel led Central (9-12, 3-6) with 17 points, including five three-pointers.

OLENTANGY 72, OLENTANGY ORANGE 57: Austin Brown had 19 points and Olentangy (11-8, 4-5) played spoiler with a win at Olentangy Orange (12-7, 6-3). Bryson Lane scored 20 for Orange, which was eliminated from the OCC Buckeye race.

NEW ALBANY 61, CANAL WINCHESTER 57: Jayden Lewis had 12 of his 16 points in the second half and New Albany (7-13, 3-6) pulled off an upset at Canal Winchester (17-3, 7-2) in the OCC Cardinal. The Eagles had four players with at least 11 points. Brady Snyder led Canal with 22 points.

PICKERINGT­ON CENTRAL 70, GROVE CITY 47: Javohn Garcia had 34 points, including seven threepoint­ers, and Pickeringt­on Central (19-1, 8-1) rolled past host Grove City (9-11, 1-8) in the OCC Ohio. PICKERINGT­ON NORTH 53, REYNOLDSBU­RG 48: Jack Sawyer had 25 points and Pickeringt­on North (16-4, 8-1) maintained its share of the OCC Ohio lead with a win over host Reynoldsbu­rg (15-5, 5-4). HILLIARD DAVIDSON 68, WESTLAND 18: Emily Simon had 37 points and broke the school scoring record in leading Hilliard Davidson (16-5, 5-4) past host Westland (3-16, 0-9) in the OCC Central. Simon now has 1,100 career points.

WESTERVILL­E SOUTH 38, WESTERVILL­E NORTH 29: Sommer Pitzer made five free throws in the fourth quarter and Westervill­e South (14-5, 9-0) beat visiting Westervill­e North (9-13, 4-6) in the OCC Buckeye.
