Doctor gets probation in DUI crash
An Upper Arlington doctor was placed on probationmonday for 2 years for driving while impaired and causing a crash in Dublinthat injured a professional golfer and a former Columbus Blue Jackets player who were amonghis passengers.
David A. Crawford, 37, had pleaded guilty on Jan. 10in Delaware County Common Pleas Courtto three felony counts ofvehicular assault, plus a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in the June 1, 2018, crash.
His sentence was imposed by Judge David M. Gormley, who also fined Crawford $600 and suspended his driver’s license for four years. Crawford must attend a driver-intervention program or spend three days in jail. If Crawford violates probation, the judge said, he could be sent to prison for 2 years.
In February, the Ohio State Medical Board suspended Crawford’s medical license forsix months in response to his conviction.
Crawford was driving his2014 BMW on Muirfieldcourt when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road, struck a culvert and went airborne, according to Dublin police. It then struck several trees, crossed a driveway and landed in a ditch, police said.
Three passengers were injured, including former Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski and professional golfer William “Bud” Cauley.
Cauley underwent surgery after the crash to repair a collapsed lung, five broken ribs and a fractured lower leg.
Wisniewski, who played with the Blue Jackets from 2011 to 2015, suffered broken ribs.
The group had been at the Memorial Tournament at nearby Muirfield Village Golf Club earlier in the day.
