Prep’s Anthony named player of year
Christopher “CJ” Anthony, who powered Harvest Prep to the state tournament, was named Division III player of the year on the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association All-ohio boys basketball team.
A 6-foot junior guard, Anthony averages 25 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 53 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range for the Warriors (26-2).
Joining Anthony on the first team was 6-1 senior guard Dallas Patrick of Wellington, who averaged 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 3.0 steals while shooting 52 percent from the field. Patrick, a four-year starter who played on two state tournament teams, is the program’s all-time leading scorer.
Other first-teamers were Jayson Woodrich of Beachwood, Mark Wise of Cincinnati Deer Park, Tyler Stephens of Leavittsburg Labrae, Griffin Doseck of Anna, Owen Hiegel of Ottawa-glandorf, E.J. Farmer of state tournament-bound Cleveland Heights Lutheran East, Davis Black of Byesville Meadowbrook and Tanner Holden of Wheelersburg.
Joe Frank, who guided Archbold to an unbeaten regular season in his first season after serving 34 years as an assistant, was selected coach of the year.
Freshman DJ Moore of Worthington Christian and junior Calijaha’won Davis of Africentric made second team. Junior Brian Collier, who helped Grandview to a district championship, was third team.
In Division IV, Central District player of the year Ben Hershberger of Shekinah Christian was the area’s only first-team choice.
Hershberger averaged 19.6 points and 9.5 rebounds while hitting 68 threepointers in the regular season.
Junior Zeb Jackson of Toledo Maumee Valley, a 6-3 junior guard who has committed to Michigan, was selected player of the year. He averaged 24.5 points and 7.8 rebounds.
Other first-teamers were Trey Brooks of Elyria Open Door Christian, Zach Rasile of Mcdonald, Gage Elza of Bristolville Bristol, Aaron Music of Coal Grove Dawson Bryant, Nate Bruns of Maria Stein Marion Local, Ethan Conley of Franklin Monroe, Justin Sweeney of Lisbon Anderson, Ricky Adams of Willoughby Cornerstone Christian, Curtis Houston of state qualifier Richmond Heights and Javin Etzler of state qualifier Convoy Crestview.
Mark Schlabach, who guided Berlin Hiland to a state tournament berth, was chosen coach of the year.
