An armed woman who was shot by a Columbus police officer when she waved a gun inside a Tim Horton's restaurant on the North Side is believed to have phoned police to come near the location before she entered the restaurant to rob it, court records show.

Angela N. Garcia, 36, of the North Side, was recently indicted on an aggravated robbery charge in connection with the incident Jan. 26 at the Tim Horton's in the 900 block of East Dublin-granville Road. She also was indicted on a charge of having a weapon under disability, which means she was not allowed to have a gun because of her criminal record.

Around 7 a.m. on Jan. 26, Garcia is accused of entering the Tim Horton's, displaying a pistol and demanding money. An employee removed the cash drawer and put it on the counter in front of Garcia, according to a search warrant filed in the Franklin County Municipal Court.

Columbus police, the day of the shooting, said that a person identified as a witness called police to say a woman was inside the Tim Horton's waving a gun.

Officer Samuel Rippey, a 13-year veteran, responded to the restaurant and found Garcia waving a gun. He fired, wounding Garcia. She recovered and is now in the Franklin County Jail.

The search warrant says the investigation found that Garcia called police moments before the robbery to request that they go to an address near the restaurant.

Garcia also called her father shortly before the robbery, the warrant says. Police filed the warrant to retrieve data from her cellphone, which was recovered from her at the scene.

Columbus police did not disclose what they believe was Garcia's motive for calling police.
