Casey holds on to repeat at Valspar Championship

-

Paul Casey became the first back-to-back winner of the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida, on Sunday by closing with a 1-over 72 for a one-shot victory over Jason Kokrak and Louis Oosthuizen.

Casey thought his biggest challenge would be Dustin Johnson, who was one shot behind. Instead, the world’s No. 1 player failed to make a single birdie for the first time in 31 tournaments.

The real challenge was Innisbrook, so tough that no one shot better than 68 in the final round.

The 23-year-old South Korean player birdied Nos. 14-16 and parred the final two to finish at 22-under 266 at Desert Ridge. She won when third-round leader Yu Liu missed a 15-foot par putt on the par-4 18th.

Hend wins in playoff at Maybank Championship

Scott Hend closed with a 5-under 67 and made a 3-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the European Tour’s Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Hend was one shot ahead of Nacho Elvira when the Spaniard needed a birdie on the par-5 18th at Saujana Golf & Country Club to force a playoff. As he was hitting his short pitch, a loud clap of thunder caused him to hit the shot some 30 feet short. The storm led to a delay of 1 hour, 40 minutes, and Elvira returned to hole the birdie putt for a 70.
