The Crew has been saved, so it’s time to party.
Fresh off of winning the Columbus Foundation’s Spirit of Columbus Award in May, the “Save the Crew” team will serve as the “less-than-grand marshals” at this year’s whimsical Doo Dah Parade. It’s the first time that a group, rather than an individual, has had the honor, but head organizer Deb Roberts thinks they will get along just fine.
“They’re a bunch of rowdy people,” Roberts said. “They’ll fit right in with Doo Dah.”
The movement was at the forefront of an effort to keep the Major League Soccer team in Columbus after Precourt Sports Ventures sought to move the Crew to Austin, Texas. After an uphill battle, Columbus orthopedist Pete Edwards and his family joined with Dee and Jimmy Haslam, owners of the Cleveland Browns, to buy the team.
“Save the Crew” member David Miller is excited to keep celebrating that success with fellow fans.
“The Doo Dah Parade is gonna be a fun time,” he said.
Parental note: The irreverent parade may feature entries with adult themes.
