Gay Men’s Chorus leader to step down
Timothy Sarsany is stepping down as artistic director of the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus after nine years, the organization announced Friday. Sarsany will start a new position in August with the music department at Muskingum University in New Concord. “CGMC has had an incredible place in my life these past many years, and I will always be grateful to everyone with whom I had a chance to work,” Sarsany said in a statement.
Sarsany joined the chorus in 1998 as assistant artistic director before moving up to the artistic director position in 2010. An a cappella and orchestral composer and arranger, he published six pieces during his time with the chorus.
A national search to fill the position has begun, and chorus officials aim to have the position filled by January.
The chorus incorporates singers of all gender identities and sexual orientations and will begin celebrating its 30th season in October.
