Elliott won’t report to Cowboys camp

- From wire reports

Former Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott is holding out of training camp with the Dallas Cowboys with two years remaining on the rookie contract of the two-time NFL rushing champ.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on reporting day at camp Friday that Elliott was officially a “nonreport.” The Cowboys conducted physicals and conditioning tests in Oxnard, California, in preparation for the first practice today.

Jones wouldn’t say whether the Cowboys are negotiating with Elliott’s representatives.

Elliott went through the entire offseason program without any issues but didn’t get on the team’s flight to California on Thursday and failed to report a day later. One of his representatives didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment.

Elliott, 24, is due to make $3.9 million in the fourth year of his contract and $9.1 million in the final year, which is a team option. The fourth overall pick from the 2016 draft has won two rushing titles in his three seasons.

Browns’ target Daniels joins Lions

Former Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Mike Daniels made his first free agent visit to Cleveland on Thursday, but the Detroit Lions broke the bank to sign him on Friday.

Daniels, 30, signed a one-year deal with the Lions worth $9.1 million, including $7.8 million fully guaranteed, a league source told cleveland.com. The Browns like Daniels a lot, but the price tag was likely too high.

Daniels has strong ties to Browns general manager John Dorsey, assistant GM Eliot Wolf and executive vice president Alonzo Highsmith, who helped draft him in Green Bay in 2012. But he opted for Detroit, where he is now the 17th-highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL.

Rams sign Mcvay, GM to extensions

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean Mcvay and general manager Les Snead have agreed to contract extensions through 2023.

Mcvay, 33, has engineered a stunning turnaround of the Rams in his two seasons on the job. He took over a franchise with 13 consecutive non-winning seasons and immediately won two NFC West titles while going 24-8 in the regular season.

Snead took over the Rams’ front office in 2012 in St. Louis. He built the foundation for Mcvay’s success by drafting the likes of defensive tackle Aaron Donald, running back Todd Gurley and quarterback Jared Goff.

Dolphins sign Hurns for receiver depth

With two receivers returning from serious injuries suffered last season, the Miami Dolphins decided to add a third.

Allen Hurns, mounting a comeback from a gruesome leg injury with the Dallas Cowboys, signed a one-year, $3 million contract to play for his hometown team.

The acquisition bolsters depth at a position hit hard by season-ending injuries last year. Albert Wilson suffered an injured hip in October and remains limited, and Jakeem Grant is returning from a lower leg injury in November that required surgery.

Wilson and Grant were in the midst of breakout seasons when hurt, but there’s no assurance they’ll be able to regain their stride.
