Browns GM hints he’s discussed possible trade with Redskins
Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey already has pulled off one blockbuster trade. He seems eager to make another.
Dorsey said he’s had “a few conversations” lately with Washington Redskins President Bruce Allen and hinted one of the topics discussed has been a trade for star left tackle Trent Williams.
Dorsey, who maintains the Browns can still accomplish all their goals despite a 2-4 start, was asked if Allen might trade his left tackle, meaning Williams. “It takes two to tango,” Dorsey said Wednesday as he left the podium.
Dorsey’s comment could be seen as a way of putting pressure on Allen to deal Williams, a seven-time Pro Bowler who isn’t playing while embroiled in a messy contract dispute with the Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey acknowledged having “a few conversations” lately with Redskins GM Bruce Allen, hinting at the possibility of trading for seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams, who hasn’t played this season due to a contract holdout.
Redskins. Williams also differed with the team’s medical staff on its handling of a growth on his head.
Last week, Allen insisted he has no plans of moving the disgruntled 31-year-old Williams.
Browns defensive end Myles Garrett said he was punched in the face by a “fan” who wanted to take a picture with him. Garrett posted on his Twitter account that the person “hopped” out of his car before delivering a blow that had little effect on the muscular 6-foot-4, 270-pounder.
“Put your legs into it,” Garrett wrote, “might have actually made me flinch.”
A Browns spokesman said the team is aware of the incident “and appropriate law enforcement authorities have been notified.”
The Cincinnati Bengals expect to be without their top two cornerbacks when they host Jacksonville, the latest challenge for a defense that’s given up at least 490 yards in half of its games.
Dre Kirkpatrick and William Jackson III likely will be sidelined because of injuries suffered during a 23-17 loss at Baltimore that left Cincinnati at 0-6. Kirkpatrick hurt his left knee and Jackson suffered a shoulder injury.
In addition, safety Shawn Williams is limited by a thigh injury that prompted him to come to the sideline repeatedly during the past two games. He was limited in practice on Wednesday, while Kirkpatrick and Jackson were held out.
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Mason Rudolph will return to the starting lineup after being cleared by an independent neurological consultant following a concussion he sustained against Baltimore on Oct. 6.
“(Rudolph) is our quarterback when he clears the protocol and it’s as simple as that,” Tomlin said. “Appreciate the efforts of ‘Duck’ (Devlin Hodges) and so forth, but as soon as (Rudolph) is ready to go, he’s ready to go.”
