Man wanted in threat vs. OSU football players, students

A man accused of threatening to shoot Ohio State football players and students during the 2018 Michigan game at Ohio Stadium is being sought by authorities after failing to appear for a federal court hearing in Northern California this week.

Daniel Lee Rippy had been arrested on Saturday in Livermore, a city in the San Francisco Bay area. No age or address was supplied by authorities.

In September, Rippy had been charged in

U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio with making a threat via interstate communication. The indictment was sealed until early December.

The charge accuses Rippy of transmitting an electronic communication from California to Ohio State during the Nov. 24, 2018, game. The charge doesn’t specify how it was transmitted.

Rippy is accused of stating: “Your school is going to get shot ... up and I’m seriously going to hurt the students and all the players from the football team.”

After his arrest, Rippy posted bond on Monday but then failed to report to the pretrial services division in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Rippy also had failed to report to a halfway house as required, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

“It should be noted that the defendant’s attorney was contacted, and he also had been unsuccessful in contacting the defendant,” Richard Sarlatte, a pretrial services supervisor, stated in a court filing Monday.
