Ohio’s virus cases rise by 3rd-most

Coronaviru­s cases in Ohio rose Sunday by 1,378, the state’s third-largest one-day jump of the pandemic.

The largest daily increase in cases was Friday’s 1,525. Sunday’s increase brings the state’s total to 65,592, according to Ohio Department of Health data.

Ohio has had 8,842 hospitaliz­ations, including 2,185 ICU admissions.

The death toll is 3,058, up 22 from 3,036 on Saturday.

The state’s second-most new daily cases, 1,427, came in mid-april during a state prison outbreak that led to mass testing of inmates and employees.

In the past 21 days, Ohio has averaged 990 new cases a day, according to the health department data.

The median age of those infected remained at 44 on Sunday.

Franklin County still led the state in reported cases with 12,035 on Sunday, followed by Cuyahoga with 9,208; Hamilton with 6,952 and Lucas with 3,007.

Cuyahoga County has the most hospitaliz­ations during the pandemic, with 1,711 patients admitted, although Franklin County leads in total deaths with 447.

Franklin County is among 12 counties, including Pickaway and Fairfield, that are under a level 3, or “red,” publicheal­th advisory, meaning that people should limit activities as much as possible to prevent possible exposure and are required to wear a mask in public places.

Others counties included at level 3 are Butler, Clermont, Cuyahoga, Hamilton, Lorain, Montgomery, Summit, Trumbull and Wood.

Huron County was downgraded from level 3 to level 2.
