Dublin theater to show one-woman play online
The Abbey Theater of Dublin will stream the world premiere of “Marie Regina: The Life of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots.”
The one-woman play, written and performed by Nikki Davis, will stream online at 8 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1 and 2 p.m. Aug. 2.
Joe Bishara, who left his position as CATCO’S associate artistic director in October to became theater supervisor of the 200-seat Abbey Theater facility at the Dublin Community Recreation Center, will produce and direct Davis’ new play.
Bishara and Davis describe the work as a “deconstruction” of Stuart, born in 1542. Her turbulent life included three very different marriages, constant pursuit of the English throne, accusations of adultery and murder, her 19-year imprisonment in England and her 1587 beheading after an assassination plot against Queen Elizabeth I.
The production is part of Abbey Theater’s ongoing Virtual Theatre Project. Tickets to the online play are $5.
