Speedway sold to 7-Eleven by struggling Marathon

Marathon Petroleum Corp. is selling its Speedway stores to 7-Eleven for $21 billion.

During a phone call with investors Monday, Marathon President and CEO Michael J. Hennigan said the company would use proceeds from the sale — $16.5 billion after taxes — to shore up its financial situation and return money to shareholders.

Findlay-based Marathon has more than 3,900 Speedway stores in 36 states.

Predicted drop in home prices is yet to develop

More evidence arrived Tuesday that home prices nationally and throughout Ohio are so far withstanding the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the mortgage and realestate service Corelogic, U.S. home prices in June were up 4.9% over last June.

After dipping in May, prices jumped 1% in June over May, their biggest onemonth jump in more than seven years.

Prices were also up in every major Ohio metro area in June compared with a year ago, ranging from 3.3% in Lima to 9.6% in Mansfield. Year-over-year prices were up 7.9% in Columbus; 5.6% in Cincinnati; and 6% in Cleveland.

Despite the jump in June, Corelogic continues to forecast a modest drop in home prices over the next 12 months.

Same-day delivery to begin at Big Lots next month

Big Lots has begun same-day delivery of its retail store offerings.

The retailer has struck a partnership with logistics company PICKUP that allows customers to order from the assortment available at their local Big Lots store via biglots.com, and for those items to be delivered within the same day.

This service will be rolled out to 1,100 stores across the U.S. in the next month.

Jobs fair aimed at remote workers in Westerville

A three-day virtual jobs fair organized by several Westerville-area organizations has been set for Aug. 13-15.

The Greater Westerville Virtual Hiring Event is meant for area residents to connect with businesses that are ready to hire without having to leave your home.

There also will be a resource fair in which nonprofit organizations will be able to share the resources that they can offer to families.
