Columbus man dies in shooting

Another weekend of gun violence continued into Monday for Columbus police, including a fatal afternoon shooting.

A person died after being shot in a Northeast Side neighborho­od Monday afternoon.

Columbus police and fire medics were called at 1:30 p.m. Monday on a report of a shooting in the 1800 block of Solera Drive.

The shooting victim was taken to Ohiohealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where the person was pronounced dead, Columbus police said.

The death is the city’s 76th homicide this year.

No further informatio­n about the shooting was immediatel­y available.

According to police, there were at least three shooting incidents on Sunday evening and early Monday morning. Two of those shootings happened on Jonathan Drive on the city’s South Side.

The first incident happened around 5:35 p.m. Sunday on the 1600 block of Jonathan Drive. At least three houses had been struck by gunfire but no people were hit.

Less than five hours later, police were again called to Jonathan Drive, but this time to the 1500 block.

According to police, around 10:20 p.m. Sunday, there was a report of shots being fired and a woman being injured by broken glass.

The victim, 19-year-old Zipporah Curenton-palmer, was hit by glass from a window that was struck by bullets. Witnesses said the family was celebratin­g a birthday when unknown males fired multiple times at the front of the home.

Police said a 4-year-old girl may have been grazed on the leg by a bullet. She was treated at the scene.

Curenton-palmer was taken to an area hospital to be treated for the cuts to her face and upper body.

Around 1 a.m. Monday, police were called to the Water’s Edge Apartments on the city’s Southeast Side on a report of a shooting. Officers found a male who had been shot. The victim was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The victim’s name had not yet been released as of mid-afternoon.

The shootings follow five shootings within a 12-hour period in the city on Saturday and a shooting in Bexley that left a person critically injured.

Bexley police said Monday the 20-year-old man accidental­ly shot himself in the leg and will recover from his injuries.
