- Sarah Brookbank

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said he’ll contribute $10 to any celebrity who is threatening to leave the United States if President Donald Trump is reelected, but there’s a catch.

In a short Facebook Live video, Jones said he will contribute money to any celebrity’s plane ticket, but they can never come back to the United States to live. Jones said celebrities threatened to leave in 2016 but he believes not one celebrity left then.

He said the people who are embarrassed and ashamed of their country and are “mostly the same people who don’t like the police and don’t like first responders.”

He said that made him feel obligated to make a response.

In the video and post, Jones did not name any celebrities.

“I hope you do leave. If there’s any way that I can help, I’m not a rich person but I would be willing to throw in $10 to a special fund to help get you a flight or whatever it takes, a ship ride, to whatever country of your choice and maybe you make a better life there in that country,” Jones said.

As of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, the Facebook Live video has 10,000 reactions, 2,700 comments and 4,700 shares.

The video was posted Tuesday afternoon.

“This is the greatest country in the world to live in, regardless of who the president is,” Jones said.

“I love my country and I put my hand over my heart when they play the National Anthem and I stand. Those of you who don’t like it - leave. Pretty simple. And again, I will help fund that trip, you just can’t come back.”

In a separate Facebook post, Jones said: “Hell, I’ll even help them pack.”
