Pence back to Ohio on Friday
VP in Toledo just 2 days after visit to Cincinnati
In yet another confirmation of Ohio's status as an unexpected battleground state, Vice President Mike Pence is returning for a visit Friday afternoon.
The appearance at the Toledo Airport comes just two days after he appeared in Cincinnati. It also will be the day after the final debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Polls have shown that the Buckeye State, which Trump won by more than eight points in 2016, is virtually deadlocked.
Tickets for the 1 p.m. event at Grande Air at the airport in Swanton, just southwest of Toledo can be obtained here. Doors open at 11 a.m.
Trump held a rally at the same airport last month, an event that was attended by a few thousand.
Short on cash to buy TV ads, the Trump campaign has been concentrating on rallies in Ohio to keep the nation's leading bellwether red. Before Trump's Toledo stop last month, he appeared at Dayton's airport. Donald Trump Jr. has made scattered appear
ances across Ohio, including a Thursday visit to Steubenville. Even Pence's nephew has been dispatched to the state.
In contrast, Biden's campaign has been devoting large sums for TV ads but has made minimal personal appearances. The former vice president made stops at Amtrak stations in Cleveland and Alliance during a whistle-stop tour
the day after the first presidential debate in late September, and held rallies in Toledo and Cincinnati earlier this month.
A visit by running mate Kamala Harris last week in Cleveland was called off when a couple of staffers tested positive for COVID-19. drowland@dispatch.com @darreldrowland
