If it’s OK to march, it’s OK to fill Horseshoe

- The Mailbox Ray Stein

Editor: Open up the Horseshoe. If the president can hold his rallies, women can March on Washington, D.C., and protestors can rally against the police all close together, why can’t we fill the ‘Shoe to capacity with our scarlet and gray masks on?

It is time to open up Ohio Stadium to our great Buckeye Nation and bring another championship trophy home to Columbus.

Michael Oser, Columbus

Michael: I don’t know if you haven’t seen what the virus numbers are doing lately or just don’t care what they’re doing. Either way, I’ll say this: I hope what happened to Dan Mullen after he called for a full house at the Swamp in Florida doesn’t happen to you. Last I read, Mullen was still in isolation dealing with the COVID.

Mr. Stein: I wanted to take a quick moment to commend you and The Dispatch for publishing the New York Times story (Thursday) about coach Nick Saban and how he was allowed to coach for Alabama (last) Saturday only days after receiving a positive COVID-19 test.

It just goes to show how out of whack this country is that we can devote the money and resources to get a college football coach back on the sidelines for a “big game” while real Americans suffer without the benefit of elite health care.

Alabama should be ashamed of themselves, but I suspect the actions would be the same if that happened anywhere else where football played an oversized role in the day-to-day lives of citizens.

Bill Martin, Columbus

Bill: Yeah, that story was a real eyeopener. I’m happy that Saban’s test was an apparent false positive, but I must say, it feels like football in America — college and professional — is about to implode. If the Big Ten gets in a 10-game season, it’ll be a minor miracle.
