Wake up: Donald Trump lost this election fair and square Essential workers deserve their own version of the GI Bill

-

I respond to the Wednesday letter “President is committed to protecting all Americans” from Don Eastman, who urged America to “wake up” to President Trump’s efforts to protect us from “corruption and fraud in our election system.”

I submit that it is Eastman who is sleepwalking in the wake of President Trump’s false attacks on our election system.

Like Trump and members of his cult, Eastman does not provide one specific example of corruption or fraud because they cannot do so.

As a mostly retired trial lawyer with a lot of time on my hands, I have read many of the filings in Trump’s legal challenges around the country.

In none of those cases is there any allegation of fraudulent voting or corruption.

Instead, they demand that the votes of real Americans who wanted to and did vote not be counted.

If there really was fraud and corruption, we would have seen evidence of it presented in at least one court of law. In the absence of any evidence of fraud or corruption, the courts have uniformly rejected these efforts to disenfranchise the rights of real Americans to vote.

Eastman and other Trump supporters should wake up. This is not about “protect(ing) and defend (ing) the people of the United States,” as Eastman maintained, but about subverting the truth that Trump lost the election, fair and square.

The essential workers during this pandemic should have their own GI Bill. From nurses to medical technicians, from slaughterhouse employees to semi-drivers to grocery shelf stocker, from mail delivery to post office workers and from the scientists to the lab assistants.

This includes the millions of Americans under incredible strain of minimum wage who have been essential in helping this country through this crisis.

Readers should call their senators and congressional representatives and show their deep appreciation for the essential workers with an EW bill.
