Suspect arrested in Donerick’s death case

- Jim Woods

A man known to some as “Shizz” walked through the inside of Donerick’s Pub House on the Far East Side about 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 19 and out onto the back porch patio.

Moments later, people inside the bar told Columbus police they heard multiple gun shots.

Witnesses told police that “Shizz” — later identified as 34-year-old Shawn Maurice Mapp Jr. — calmly walked back through the interior and out the front door of the tavern, according to Franklin County Municipal Court documents. Donerick’s is located in a shopping plaza on the south side of the 6900 block of East Broad Street between ReynoldsburgNew Albany Road and Mccormick Boulevard.

Out on the back porch, Adrian Hardy, 25, of the South Side was dead. Cheniqua Barton, 28, of the Near East Side, was critically wounded. She was rushed to nearby Mount Carmel East Hospital and immediately underwent surgery. She survived.

Homicide detectives on Monday arrested Shawn, whose address was listed in Franklin County Municipal Court records as Kenwick Road on the East Side near the eastern edge of Bexley, but whom police say does not have a permanent address. He is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Hardy and is expected to face additional charges from a grand jury in the shooting of Barton.

Homicide detectives obtained a warrant for Mapp’s arrest on the murder charge on Oct. 29. The detectives, aware that Mapp was being investigated for an unrelated aggravated robbery, were able to connect him with the Donerick’s Pub slaying, court documents state.

Mapp is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Anyone with information about the double shooting is asked to call the Columbus police Homicide Unit at 614645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS. All tips to Crime Stoppers are anonymous. jwoods@dispatch.com @Woodsnight
