Huffman shouldn’t have committee post Biden’s policies will ‘unite’ us — in hardship GOP needs to return to reality

-

It is astounding that after making racist remarks, Republican Rep. Steve Huffman would be placed in the role of the Ohio Senate health committee chair. Huffman made racist claims last year, and he was fired from his private-sector job. But now a relative has put him in a Senate leadership role and says he deserves forgiveness because he apologized?

Until we address racism swiftly and with commitment, it will continue to destroy the fabric of our humanity. People in any kind of leadership role need to be removed, not promoted, when they make any kind of racist statement. Those beliefs destroy others’ opportunities and they reflect on the character of the person who can so easily say racist things. Can’t we please expect decency in the Ohio Senate?

This is another example of backward thinking that is guiding policy making in Ohio. It is wrong and is driven by horrible leadership that is impacting all of us.

I had somewhat of a different thought when President Biden spoke of uniting the country. On his first day in office, by canceling the Keystone Pipeline, he will be uniting many middle-class Americans in the unemployment line.

After reading the Wednesday Dispatch.com article “Ohio Republicans after Donald Trump: Where does the GOP go from here?”, I say Ohio and national Republicans need to get familiar with reality again. As long as they go along with hoaxes such as the 2020 presidential election being rigged against the incumbent, then they deserve all the division and problems that will befall them.

That myth led directly to the storming of the U. S. Capitol by crazy and dangerous extremists. As we now know, five people died at the Capitol on Jan. 6, one being a member of the Capitol police force. That event was totally unnecessary and should not have happened.

If enough Republican members of Congress, governors, and party officials demonstrated the moral courage to tell the incumbent president pushing the falsehood of a rigged election to stop and accept what had been proven as a very efficient and fair electoral process, then the tragedy of Jan. 6 might have been prevented. Republicans need to demonstrate that they care about our nation and all its citizens first instead of grasping to advance their political careers.

Vaccination review: Strongly recommend

I am one of the older recipients of the “shot” and wish to advise other potential recipients of how well and professionally it was handled. I arrived at the appointed hour and was immediately greeted by workers who offered to assist me. I was directed to a receiving individual who fully explained what was to be done. I was then escorted to a close-by counter by another who seated me and provided additional information.

Within five minutes after being seated, another approached with the needle and inserted it with minimum discomfort. I was asked to remain another 15 minutes, by a timer, to determine that there no adverse complication. There were none and I departed 31 minutes after arriving. Well done.

Needless to say, I was satisfied with the entire procedure and highly recommend that everyone do as I did. Let’s get rid of this killing disease.
