Galentine’s
TV show was set), of course, where Tammy the evil library director has locked Leslie and Ann in an office and they need to escape.”
Those who take the challenge will log in to the library’s website between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday, with the library keeping track of who gets out and how fast, and the winner being awarded a heart-shaped waffle maker.
“A lot of the trivia has to do with ‘Parks and Rec,’ subtle facts about the characters and town,” Legg said. “But I’m also putting in some questions about best friends in history, so that if you’re not a diehard fan of the show, you still have a chance.”
Local celebrations of the holiday range from the virtual to the physical, sometimes combining both.
Endeavor Brewing & Spirits and Rainy Day Bake Shop will present a virtual cupcake class.
Participants will pick up a box with the makings of the cupcakes and frosting — and a couple of ready-to-go cocktails, if they’re so inclined — and then attend a Zoom cupcake-decorating session.
“We’ll teach you some Instagramworthy piping techniques, and you can enjoy some virtual girl time,” said Kari Day, general manager of Endeavor on the Northwest Side and owner of the bake shop, which is in Mansfield.
“We’ll be making chocolate-espresso cupcakes, with a couple different shades of buttercream, maybe pink and red for the season.”
Those seeking a more permanent remembrance of the day can paint some pottery, either at an event at the upaint Pottery Studio at Polaris or with a takehome kit.
The in-house option is “something we do every year. It’s just a good chance for friends to get together,” said Stacey Heltsley, co-owner of the studio.
Those who would like a more socially distanced Galentine’s Day can go online and choose pieces to paint.
“We’ll get together paints, brushes, everything they need and they can do hands-free pickup. They paint them at home and drop them back for us to fire,” Heltsley said.
Socially distanced yoga is another way for friends to celebrate together.
“Our Galentine’s Day event has a little bit of yoga, a little self-inquiry, with a takeaway of how to be more loving to yourself. It’s about women nurturing and taking time for themselves,” said Amber Miskovch, owner of the Wonder Within, a Delaware studio offering a Galentine’s Day yoga class.
Even less work and more relaxing is involved in an event at the Tranquility
Salt Cave, where a little self-indulgence is about as strenuous as things get.
“The salt cave allows plenty of room for social distancing,” said owner Leslie Dahn. “We’ll have a woman doing a guided meditation, and another woman doing a crystal bowl sound bath. The evening will have a little of everything for friends to relax together.”
