Moon, David D.

-

David D. Moon, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of Wilson Lowell Moon and Mary (Rose) Moon. Born and raised in Greenfield, Ohio,

he took a keen interest at a very young age in the great outdoors and loved to hunt and fish with his

dog, Tuffy and Gretchen. He loved dogs...cats, not so much. He cherished his days in the Boy Scouts and would achieve the highest honor of Eagle Scout in 1957. He graduated from Edward Lee Mcclain HS in 1959 and in 1963 from “Thee” Ohio State University. All who knew him know he absolutely bled scarlet & gray and did not give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, although he did occasionally invade that “state up north” to plunder their lakes and forests for fish and mushrooms. He

was a master angler who slayed many-a-fish all over

North America and had many adventures at the Indian River Lodge in British Columbia that he and his buddies owned. He was an old school tried and true business man and some of you will remember him from those golden days of yesteryear when he joined his father, Wilson, in 1963

to run the Greenfield Printing & Publishing Company.

He was very active in his community serving as a

past President of Greenfield Rotary and as a Greenfield

school board member. As a member of the Jaycees, he helped with the renovation of the armory and was the chairman of the U.S. Bicentennial Celebration. He was a member of the Ohio State Alumni Association

and the Ohio State President’s Club. He was an avid reader with a great love for American history and a clever card shark with an absolutely brilliant mind for numbers. A purveyor of jokes with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh that would leave you doubled over, hilariously crying and out of breath. Like a big ol’ kid, he loved holidays. He was the head cool ghoul entertaining (scaring) many a beggar on trick-or-treat. The man truly loved Christmas and would dress as Santa for his kids and in later years for the grandkids. He would go full Clark Griswald with the decorations and would often talk to the Lord while working on his spectacular light displays. He was kind, generous, big hearted and a bit mischievous. David is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dotti (Ogg) Moon; four children, David Michael (Karen) Moon, Mary

Melissa Moon, Melanie Sue (Chad) Wilt, Matthew

Wilson Moon; his first wife

and mother to his children, Karen (Vandemark) Moon;

a stepson, Paul (Tiffany)

Fryer; and sister-in-law and brother in-law, Ada (Ogg) and Harold Gutridge. He was affectionately called

Papaw D. Dum by his 7

grandchildren and had 4 step-grandchildren and 2 great step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, stepson Timothy Fryer, a beloved brother-in-law,

retired Lt. Col. Paul C. Ogg,

sister-in-law and brother in law Betty (Ogg) and Kenneth Carpenter and sister in-law Nina (Ogg) Williams. For those who didn’t know, Ol’ Gator had to have heart surgery last September and he fought hard to recover, but in these last couple of months his health declined rapidly and his heart gave all that it could. He will be dearly and sorely missed by all those who loved him, but now he’s at that great

fishin’ hole in the sky with

his ol’ buddies Dale, Bozey

& Big George. The fish are

fryin’, the Crown Royal

is flowin’, the laughters

rollin’ and the Buckeyes are beatin’ the Blue... again & again & again.

Funeral service will be 1PM

Tuesday, March 30 at the

First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield with Rev. Mark Current officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield

Cemetery. Visitation will

be from 4-7PM Monday, at

the Murray-fettro Funeral

Home in Greenfield.
