1949 - 2021
Gary P. Gunderman passed peacefully at home on April 9, 2021 after surviving ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) for several years. The only child of Mildred “Billie” (Merz) and Paul Gunderman
of Columbus, OH, Gary was born on November 9, 1949. He graduated from
Northern University where he was a member of Alpha
Sigma Phi fraternity. Gary served in the US Army and went on to receive his master’s degree in Regional
and City Planning from
The Ohio State University.
He was certified by the
American Institute of Certified Planners and served in many planning positions in
Bettendorf, IA, Springfield,
OH, Dane County (Madison), WI, and Delaware, OH before retiring from his position as Planning Manager for the City of Dublin, OH in 2015. Gary is survived by his wife of 34 years, Chris
Kelley; and his cousins - the
Waters family – Bill, Frances,
Vincent, and Anthony (Caryn Epstein) with whom he enjoyed many holidays and vacations for almost five decades. Gary was an avid skier and also enjoyed working out, biking, tennis and jazz piano music. He was a dedicated Buckeye fan and loved to tailgate.
He and his wife traveled extensively, enjoyed live theater, music concerts and spending time with close friends. Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER
DUBLIN. A private burial with military honors will be held at Union Cemetery in
Columbus. A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial
