Why offensive tackle is also OSU’S Chef Swaggy P.

- Lori Schmidt

Favorite movie?

“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” or “Holes.”

Who is your favorite musician?

Lil Uzi Vert. It kinda rolls into “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” because two of his albums revolve around it.

Last book you read for fun?

I read “The Catcher in the Rye.” I was supposed to read it for class, and I didn’t, and then I read it afterward, and I actually enjoyed it.

What’s your nickname?

Either Nick, or back in high school, they used to call me The Law Firm.

If it didn’t break the rules of cool, what nickname would give yourself?

Swaggy P.

If I put Swaggy P. in charge of the sport of football for a day, what is the one thing you would absolutely make sure to change?

I don’t think I would want to change a lot. It’s the only great team sport that’s left, in my opinion. There’s not a lot you could really change with football. It’s just a tough game for tough people, and it brings out the best in people. So I don’t think I would change a whole lot.

So do you have a favorite non-football team?

My number one favorite team is my fantasy football team, and then my second favorite team is Lebron James — wherever he goes. Those are the two that I love the most.

What’s the name of your fantasy football team?

I call it the OSU Luckeyes.

Very nice. And is it a lucky team?

They are. They always are lucky. I’m coaching them, so they have to be.

So when you’re not playing fantasy football, and you’re not playing football, how do you spend your free time?

I cook a lot. So during COVID, I learned how to cook, because it helped me gain weight and helped me maintain my weight. So I got really interested in cooking. That’s something I really love and

enjoy doing a lot. I lived with my mom, so it was always just me and my mom, right? So she taught me that, look, whenever you go to college or whatever you do, you need to be able to fend for yourself. And that was something my grandparents taught her and taught her brothers and one sister, and she passed that on to me. She said, ‘Look, you need to make sure that you’re able to take care of yourself, no matter the situation. You need to be able to be a man and get things done, and one of the things of being a man is being able to take care of a household and being able take care of yourself, number one.

Best dish?

My pasta. Number one dish.

What kind of sauce do you put on it?

Meat marinara. I do a bunch of spices and things like that and make it a little bit spicier. Sometimes I’ll add in a little bit of alfredo to make it like a tiny bit of a vodka sauce. But, yeah, just meat marinara.

Is this how you once broke the gutter of your Mom’s house? Just one too many pastas?

More like 20 too many pastas probably, but yeah.

Can you tell me the story behind that? You just looked at the gutter and thought, ‘Hey, pull-ups?’

First, I was able to work out at my high school, then COVID hit. I was able to find some gyms here and there. They both got shut down. And then I found, like, a Crunch Fitness. They shut down. Then it just got to the point to where I told my coaches, ‘I have nowhere else to work out.’ They’re like, ‘OK, we’re going to send you a bunch of bands, resistance bands, and you can do your exercises on your own.’ And when they said you need to try to do some pull-ups or pull-downs, somehow, some way. You can do it with a band. But I felt like I was going to break down my mom’s door when I was trying to do some of the triceps pulls. And then I saw the gutters outside, and I thought, ‘I could probably stay on that. I could probably hook on to that.’

Who’s the one person, besides Nick Petit-frere, who is most responsible for the success of Nick Petit-frere?

My mom. My mom’s one of the most important people in my life, and she raised me up to be who I am today. I give her all of my graces and all of my thanks for her being who she is and raising me to be the person I am today.

What’s the one question you’re tired of being asked?

Did you really eat all that food? Or did you really have 8,000 calories?

What’s the one question you wish you were asked either more or at all, because nobody has ever asked you?

Hmm. What’s you’re favorite game to play or your favorite leisure activity?

OK. What is your favorite game to play?

I love playing board games. My favorite game is Monopoly. That’s one of my favorite games. I love playing board games in general, but that’s my top tier.

Which one? The thimble, the top hat, the...

I get the battleship usually. That’s usually my piece. Everybody tries to get the car and the dog and the horse, but I like the battleship.
