Elizabeth “Bette” Roberts, 77, of Sunbury, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 27, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 20, 1944 in Coral Gables, Florida to the late Edward Jr. and Edna (Weikert) Hoke. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, Bette worked as an elementary school teacher near Cincinnati then moved to Lincoln and Chapelfiel­d Elementary Schools in Gahanna. She also served as a librarian aide at Harrison St. Elementary School in Sunbury, and gave piano lessons. A longtime member of Sunbury United Methodist Church. Bette served as the Church’s music director for a number of years, was church organist for 33 years, sang in the choir, was a part of the Sunbury United Methodist Women Ministry, was part of the knitting and crocheting club, and served in

other activities and offices.

Outside of her involvemen­t with church, Bette was a member of the Big Walnut Area Historical Society, CCL, Sunbury Searchligh­t club and a literary book club. Bette cherished time spent with family, and took great pride in her family’s sixty

five-year family reunion

streak. She enjoyed discoverin­g new children’s books, working puzzles, collecting Russian nesting dolls and angels, and shopping to

find a new purse. Left to

cherish her memory is her

loving husband of over fifty

years, Roger K. Roberts; her sons, Jason (Amy) Roberts and Brian Roberts; her brother, Edward III (Diane) Hoke; as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends. In addition to her parents, Bette is preceded in death by her sister Eugena Louise Hoke. Friends may call from 2-4pm on Friday, September 17, 2021 in the multi-purpose room at Sunbury United

Methodist Church, 100 W Cherry St, Sunbury, OH 43074. A celebratio­n of life service will follow on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 10am in the sanctuary of the church with Pastor Vicki Troutman and Pastor Gordon Myers officiatin­g. The service will be broadcast on the Devore-snyder Funeral Home Facebook page https://www.facebook. com/sunburysfh/ it will be posted for 30 days after the service. In considerat­ion for the health of everyone we ask guests to wear masks to the calling hours and the service.
